Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is CIN?
CIN, or Corporate Identification Number, is a 21-character alphanumeric code provided to companies once they are registered with the Registrar of Companies (ROC) under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA). This number uniquely identifies a company and must be quoted in all filings made through the MCA portal.
What is ROC?
The Registrar of Companies (ROC) functions under the MCA and is responsible for regulating and administering company-related activities in India. Operating in all major states and Union Territories, ROCs handle company registrations, maintain public records of registered entities, and offer public access to this data for a prescribed fee.
What are Assets Under Charge?
An asset under charge refers to the company’s property or assets that are pledged as security for a loan. In simple terms, a charge gives the lender a legal right over these assets until the debt is repaid. Companies must register any creation or modification of such charges with the ROC within 30 days. These charge details are accessible through the company registration status check.
What is DIN?
DIN, or Director Identification Number, is a unique code assigned to an individual appointed as a director of a company. This number can be obtained by submitting the SPICe form at the time of registering a company.
What is the SPICe+ Form?
SPICe+ stands for Simplified Proforma for Incorporating Company Electronically Plus. It is a consolidated form that streamlines multiple services including:
- Name reservation
- DIN allotment
- Company incorporation
- PAN and TAN allocation
It merges several steps of company formation into one seamless process, making incorporation faster and more efficient.
What is DSC and is it required for SPICe+ and RUN?
DSC stands for Digital Signature Certificate and is necessary for verifying documents submitted online. It must be issued by a government-approved certifying authority. Filing the SPICe+ (INC-32) form requires a valid DSC. However, DSC is not needed when using the RUN (Reserve Unique Name) service for name changes.
What is RUN?
RUN (Reserve Unique Name) is an MCA web-based service used to reserve or change the name of a company. As of February 23, 2020, name reservation during incorporation must be done through the SPICe+ form. The RUN service is now mainly used for modifying the name of an already existing company.
